According to the Cyber Security breaches survey of 2023;
85% of Universities, 82% of Colleges, 63% of Secondary Schools and 41% of Primary Schools identified breaches or cyber-attacks.
Just 49% of Primary schools have a formal incident response plan in place.
Just 51% of Primary schools and 87% of Secondary Schools have separate Wi-Fi networks for staff and visitors

A survey by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) in 2022 found that 82% of secondary schools identified that they had breaches or attacks in the last 12 months.
The same DCMS report showed that 50% of those colleges that had suffered attacks said they had to deal with them every week. The most common type of cyber attack against education providers remains phishing emails, with impersonation, malware and viruses closely behind.
Your staff should be aware of the latest phishing emails, text scams, and the warning signs if they’re contacted by scammers attempting to impersonate your organisation to gain access to your network or extract sensitive information that could put your staff, pupils or suppliers at further risk.
Remember, your data should be backed up regularly, and any vulnerabilities in your network need to be found and secured.
